Practice & Study Groups

The Monday- and Wednesday-night groups now meet in person as well as on Zoom.

Please see below for information on all of our study and practice groups.

Sunday meditation practice

Join us for an open sitting on Sunday mornings from 9-10 AM. Come and go at any time. Stay afterward for tea and conversation. All are welcome.  Questions? Contact Tracy at tracyd108@yahoo.com
Address: 159 State St., 2nd Floor, Portland, ME 04101.

Monday Hinayana/Mahayana Study Group

Our Monday night group studies Hinayana and Mahayana teachings. The meditation portion of each session includes chanting and shamatha and tonglen meditation, followed by a discussion of the reading.  If you have a regular practice of Buddhist meditation and would like to join us on Mondays, please contact Peter at pcomas12@gmail.com.

Wednesday Three-Yana Study Group

The Wednesday group is for people who have taken refuge and attended the Monday night Hinayana-Mahayana group for one year, or already have an established Vajrayana practice. If this describes you, please contact Kay at kay.sullivan@maine.edu.

Friday Morning Ngondro Group

On Friday mornings @ 8:10 AM, we offer a group for practitioners of the Karma Kagyu ngondro.  Contact Ted at ted.mayer1@gmail.com for more information.

Medicine Buddha Practice

Inspired by Thrangu Rinpoche’s encouragement that practicing Medicine Buddha sadhana during the pandemic would be especially beneficial for all beings, we have been practicing twice/month on Zoom. Contact Kay at kay.sullivan@maine.edu for more information.

Monthly Dharma Reading Group on Race

This group is designed for those who want to educate themselves about race/racism in the United States within a discussion that prioritizes Dharma principles, including overcoming ignorance, generating compassion, and developing wisdom. You do not need to be a student of Buddhism in order to join.  Click here for more information.
