Join us for Dharma Film Night featuring The Cup (1999)—a warm, humorous, and quietly profound story set in a Tibetan monastery in exile. When a group of young monks become obsessed with watching the World Cup soccer finals, their efforts to secure a television reveal something deeply human.
Written and directed by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, beneath its gentle comedy, The Cup offers a tender reflection on desire, discipline, community, and the path of practice in everyday life. Rather than portraying monks as distant or idealized, the film shows how Dharma unfolds right in the midst of ordinary impulses. Accessible, funny, heartfelt, and surprisingly insightful.
Running Time: 1h 33m
